Bang Bang Chicken is a dish that showcases the delightful melding of flavors and textures commonly found in Asian cuisine. Its roots can be traced back to Chinese culinary traditions, particularly in Sichuan cuisine, where bold flavors and spicy elements are key features. The name "Bang Bang" is believed to derive from the sound of the meat being pounded to tenderize it, a technique that enhances the chicken’s texture and helps it absorb the flavors of the accompanying sauces.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1/2 cup cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

1/4 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce

1 tablespoon Sriracha (adjust for spice preference)

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon lime juice

For the Bowls:

2 cups cooked jasmine rice (or cauliflower rice for low-carb)

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup diced cucumber

1/2 cup chopped green onions

1 avocado, sliced

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels, then season with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in cornstarch, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Cook the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the coated chicken thighs and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Transfer the chicken to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Make the Bang Bang Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust the spiciness according to your preference.

Assemble the Bowls: In each bowl, start with a base of cooked jasmine rice. Top with sliced chicken, shredded carrots, diced cucumber, avocado slices, and chopped green onions.

Finish with Sauce and Garnish: Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce generously over the top of each bowl. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.

Serve: Enjoy your vibrant and flavorful Bang Bang Chicken Bowls immediately!
